TAMMY: I think American Express has really
figured out that when customers call in, it is about a relationship. But there are so many situations where building
the relationship and having that dialogue with the customer has proven to be so much
more important than that initial question that might have come in. And by having that
dialogue, they walk away with a different appreciation. For American Express, we want someone who
is committed to the customers and delivering on their expectations. Every call looks a
little different so they have to be willing to listen to our customers, make the right
decisions, and most importantly, service with a smile over the phone. Outside of the policies and procedures, the
customer care professional challenged the process and took on that role of really empowering
themselves and doing what they needed to do for our customer. Those are the types of examples
that I hear every day, where customers then call me back and thank me for hiring that
employee because they realize that that is a bit unique, and not all companies embrace
that like we do. As a company we work very hard to continue
to improve benefits for our employees, and our employees continue to give us the feedback
and we continue to expand the benefits and offerings. Depending on peoples position and
family, they might be taking up the opportunity around some of the healthy living benefits,
whether its working out locally, inside the service center. We have coaches onsite, we
have nurse practitioners onsite, so we really go out of our way where we can provide benefits
to our employees to make their life a little easier because we know how challenging balancing
work and life can be. Being located in a city like Phoenix, where
it is a big city, American Express presence is large and we are very involved in the community
and our employees embrace that. We support it as a company and our employees do a great
job of giving back and its terrific to work for a company, when you spend time with different
organizations, that youre recognized as a leader in the community. You know, weve moved away from transactional
servicing to understanding that it is about a relationship, and thats really what its
about: building the relationships with our customers.
