License to Fly Drones

[Reporter] Flying high with a drone pilot licenses. [Instructor] Roll right back to your star point. [Reporter] CrossFlight Sky Solutions worked with a group
of students from Bluffton and May River high school’s. [Instructor] So that’s your drone, that’s obstacle avoidance. [Reporter] Teaching them how to properly fly drones and helping
them obtain their FAA commercial drone licenses. [Annalise Sisco] My commercial drone license
lets me fly the drones that are over five pounds but under fifty five pounds
so like the big guys that they go and they take really good cinematography
shots they do the big mapping and it’s just getting to do commercial flights. [Instructor] Good job do it one more time. [Reporter] 5 students have been interning with
CrossFlight for several months learning about the drone industry. [Justin Robinson] This is gonna
really give them a chance to go into the market and actually be beneficial to a
company immediately because not only they have the skill and they understand
setting up a program and how the drones work but the companies themselves are
just getting into this so it really gives them a leg up and makes them
employable right away. [Reporter] The students are learning hands-on as they assist drone
pilots in the field. [Annalise] We can do everything from doing the real estate shots to
where you can get some really good aerial views and things that you
wouldn’t necessarily get with a normal picture you can get everything from
around in the surrounding area and then also for the golf courses we have this
really cool program where we can take 3d maps the last one we did was nine
hundred acres of a whole property. [Instructor] And then we’re in the drone you see these icons on the left. [Annalise] So what we did was we took a bunch of still shots and we stitched them all
together and made a 3d map and then it can also give you like the areas around
the tea boxes the areas are green so you can tell when things are encroaching and
when things are changing shape over time and that really helps the golf course
save a lot of money. [Reporter] The students say having their commercial drone pilot
licenses will help them in their futures. [Beau Bischoff] I kind of want to go into mechanical
engineering but then branched off into aerospace and Astronautics so this is
kind of the beginning to my like aerospace career. [Annalise] Well I hope to keep
working at CrossFlight I hope to keep helping with safety and helping with
people really being informed about how they’re controlling their drones but
ultimately I just hope to keep learning more and more things. [Reporter] CrossFlight Sky Solutions delivers aerial inspections training and consulting services. [Instructor] Stop pitch back. [Reporter] In Bluffton Ron Lopes Beaufort County School District.
