Jeffrey Epstein’s nightmarish New Mexico sex lair at heart of FBI probe

Boasting a hacienda-style mansion and sprawling landscaped grounds, Jeffrey Epstein’s remote hilltop retreat looks like paradise  The billionaire financier named the huge estate in New Mexico, developed in the early 1990s, the Zorro Ranch after the masked hero of his childhood  But the man unmasked as a depraved paedophile destroyed countless other childhoods there by using the site as a nightmarish sex lair with accomplices  Investigators fear dozens of girls were flown in on Epstein’s private jet, nicknamed the Lolita Express, to be abused  And following his death in custody last week, aged 66, the ranch will be the focus of an FBI probe on his vile network  Among those facing scrutiny is British socialite , who allegedly helped Epstein traffic a 15-year-old to Zorro Ranch and joined him in abusing her there    Maxwell was a regular visitor, flying to the estate 25 times in three years.  The 57-year-old – who has denied all claims and never been arrested – was pictured for the first time in three years on Monday as she visited a California burger bar  And we can today reveal prosecutors want to speak to a second Brit who frequented the desert bolthole  The fiend’s alleged victims have named Emmy Tayler, 44, who is said to have worked as an assistant to Maxwell in the early noughties Flight logs show she was a Zorro regular.  Tayler also accompanied “sex slave” Virginia Giuffre, then known as Virginia Roberts, to London before the 17-year-old was pictured with Epstein’s former pal Prince Andrew    In a court filing in Florida from 2015, Giuffre named the ranch as one of the places where she was sexually abused by Epstein and forced to have sex with other men  The Duke of York has vehemently denied her claim that she was “lent out” to him three times  Another alleged victim claimed in court that Epstein flew her younger sister to Zorro in 1996, telling their mother he would help the 15-year-old with her education  In an affidavit, she claims Epstein and Maxwell molested her sister, stating: “It was not until later in the summer when I called my sister in Thailand, where she was studying, that I learned what had happened to her at Epstein’s New Mexico ranch ”  The woman, now 49, alleged that she too was abused by Epstein and Maxwell, and reported her assault to New York police and FBI – but they took no action  She wrote: “To my knowledge, I was the first person to report Maxwell and Epstein to the FBI It took a significant amount of bravery because I knew how powerful and influential both were ”  While scouring the south-western state of New Mexico for a house to add to his portfolio, Epstein told estate agents that “privacy, privacy, privacy” was paramount  Pat French was approached and she said: “He wanted something really far away from people ”  She recalled visiting the luxury Four Seasons hotel with her teenage daughter once to drop off brochures  Pat said of arriving at Epstein’s suite: “There were all these girls. A little bit older than my daughter Not much. I thought, ‘Oh, these must be his daughters and friends he took along on the trip ’ I had no idea about this man.”    Pat had no further dealings with Epstein, who went through another agent to pay £15million for a 7,500-acre ranch in Stanley in 1992  Naming it Zorro, he built a 26,700sqft hilltop mansion. Then, in 1994, he sought approval to build a “grass strip runway for a private plane” on state land within his lease  But when officials wanted to send inspectors to approve his plans, Epstein withdrew the request and built a runway on land he owned outright  Surrounded by private land – including 20,000 acres bought in 2001 by fashion designer Tom Ford, whose name is in Epstein’s “little black book” – the estate gave the billionaire and his accomplices the perfect hideaway  It was also at Zorro that the deviant hatched his crackpot plans to cryogenically freeze his penis and seed the human race with his DNA  When we visited yesterday, staff refused to answer the intercom or allow access to the ranch Countless CCTV cameras monitored our movements. Ms Giuffre and the 49-year-old were among victims who helped get Epstein convicted of child sex offences in Florida in 2008  But after a sweetheart plea deal he served only 11 months of an 18-month sentence and signed the sex offenders’ register where he had homes  The New Mexico Department of Public Safety told him in 2010 he must register with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office Epstein did so and notified authorities whenever he was going to New Mexico.  Then detective Deborah Anaya, with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, made an unannounced visit to Zorro that August to interview Epstein as part of the department’s determination of his sex offender status  While there, she noted his assets – which included cars such as a Hummer H2 and a huge SUV, and aircraft including a Boeing 727, a Gulfstream private jet and two helicopters, a Bell 407 and a Sikorsky S-76 Ms Anaya said: “I’ve been to some large homes in the Santa Fe area and this was way beyond that ”  She also told how Epstein boasted of his wealth and connections, including his friendship with Prince Andrew  Less than a month later, the New Mexico Department of Public Safety told Epstein he was no longer required to register as a sex offender with the state  The investigation took into account only a police report which indicated, the authorities said, that his underage victim in Florida was 17 – the age of consent in New Mexico – although the girl whose report launched the probe was 14  The state’s Attorney General, Hector Balderas, is now in contact with Epstein survivors and has been forced to admit: “New Mexico continues to lag behind the rest of the country in strengthening outdated and weak laws that fail to protect our children from abuse This is a huge black-eye for our state.”
