R. POLK WAGNER: We’re in the
information age, and knowledge is power. Welcome to the brave new world
of intellectual property law. My name is Polk Wagner. And I’m a professor here at the
University of Pennsylvania Law School. I invite you to join me to
explore the legal doctrines at the core of the innovation economy. Whether you’re a student, a
business person, a technologist, or simply interested in
understanding how the legal rights and information shape our
lives, this course is for you. Intellectual Property Law and Policy
will be your comprehensive guide to the law, policy, and debates in
modern intellectual property law. You’ll gain a working knowledge of the
major forms of intellectual property– patents, copyrights, and trademarks. And the material that we’ll
cover in this course’s lessons and in our discussions
will ensure that you gain a broad knowledge of the importance
and the future of this critical policy area. I look forward to joining my course
and engaging in our conversation.

  1. "We're in the information age, and knowledge is power," see?

A hundred thousand years ago you didn't need to know if a plant was poisonous or not. You just ate it. If it was poison you died, so you didn't need the information, see? The other guys didn't need it either, because they're all OK. See? It's perfectly clear.

Everything is new and different today, because today we have teachers to tell us that information is important, which it never was before.

Everything is wonderful, thanks to our wonderful teechers. And their command of information.
