How To ETHICALLY Recruit Real Estate Agents From Competing Brokerages

[Bryan] So Kyle,
when an agent asks you to join their team, but
they’re from a competitor that you’re friendly with,
how do you handle that? Yeah, in this industry, there’s
kind of an unspoken rule between friends, that friends
don’t recruit from friends. It’s bad. If you take an agent
from a friend of yours, it is going to cause
strain on your relationship and there’s no agent that’s worth ruining a relationship over. None, ’cause agents come
and go, friendships don’t. So one of the other agents in my area, brokers in my area, we have
an agreement with each other that we’ll never recruit from each other. And if anybody from his
brokerage comes to me, I’ll make sure he is aware of it, and if anybody from my
brokerage goes to him, he’ll make me aware of it. So we have this agreement with each other. And one of his agents
in the past came to me, and I made the decision to tell him, hey, so and so reached out to me about potentially joining our team. That was a bad idea,
because that put this girl in a really bad position,
because I now snitched on her. And so, the broker there
kind of came down on her and then she got frustrated,
because I essentially snitched on her, so then she got mad at me. So nobody won in that situation. Now it made that relationship over at that brokerage kind of awkward, and now my relationship
with her kind of awkward. I don’t think anybody
won in that scenario. So what we do now is if
somebody from his team, which happened this week, approached us, we instructed her, hey, if you want to continue a conversation with us, you need to go tell them. You need to go tell your broker over there that you would like to speak to us. And now that way, they can
control that conversation and once that broker says hey, it’s okay, now we can have a conversation, I keep my relationship with him, and I don’t ruin my
relationship with her, as well. So moving forward now,
any time either direction, we will now put it on the agent to tell the team leader or broker about their desire to explore options, as opposed to me telling
him or him telling me. So it just works out a lot better, it doesn’t put anybody in a bad position. (light music)
