Hi, I’m Erika with The CE Shop, here to tell you that getting your DC real estate license is as easy as following these five steps. First-time licensee candidates in DC are required to take 60 hours of Pre-Licensing education. This coursework can be taken in person or online in a convenient do-at-your-own-pace format such as the program offered by The CE Shop. After you complete all course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam, you must take a final exam. This exam consists of 110 questions and the minimum passing score is 75%. This final exam has to be taken in the presence of a proctor, and you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. To start a new career in DC real estate, you must have a broker sponsor you through the licensing process and to provide you with a launchpad for your new career. This broker will be your career and education mentor and will provide you with an inside view of the day-to-day operations of being a real estate agent. It’s important to find a good fit when picking a broker to work with because it’s a key factor to becoming successful. Once you’ve passed your course final exam, you will next schedule, take, and pass your state licensing exam. The District of Columbia Real Estate Commission contracts with PSI to facilitate and administer the salesperson licensing exam. For more information, please see PSI’s DC website. After you pass your licensing exam, you’ll be provided a SCORE report which describes the application process. You have six months to apply for your DC real estate salesperson license after successfully passing your DC national salesperson exam. If you fail to submit your license application in that time, you must retake the exam. With your new license, a great mentor, and the DC real estate knowledge gained from your Pre-Licensing education, you are now ready to begin your new career.
