[Kathea Smith] Hi everyone and welcome to another edition of Fast Pitch 120: Seconds with the Merrick School of Business. Today we’re spotlighting an internship that one of our students is doing. So today your meeting Will Casey. Hi Will [Will Casey] Hello. [Kathea Smith] Will is in our real estate and economic development program, he’s going to tell us what he’s been doing this summer. So let’s start the clock. So Will, I know you’re a student in our real estate economic development program, so what brought to you did the University of Baltimore [Will Casey] Well I had an interest in real estate and while I was at CCBC, I found the major real estate and economic development at University of Baltimore. I started here in the fall of 2017 and I have been an intern at the Jacob France Institute since January of earlier this year. [Kathea Smith] So you’ve had a busy time in the Jacob France Institute. I know a little bit about what you’ve been doing in your internship so– give us the details. [Will Casey] So one of the ongoing projects that I help out with at the Jacob France Institute is something called The Pipeline. Which is an online service to developers and it tracks the development process on all the reviews that the city gives out as well as the surrounding counties. It’s a good tool for developers. It’s a database with an online mapping tool that is geocoded all projects in the development review. [Kathea Smith] So this sounds like a tool that’s really meeting the needs for our real estate and economic development industry here in the Baltimore metro area, right now? [Will Casey] Definitely and it’s actually very affordable compared to most national reports. [Kathea Smith] So you’ve gotten some real hands-on experience in your field during this internship I take it? [Will Casey] Yeah. Definitely. I’ve learned so much about all the players, what’s going on, what’s being built, it’s been a great learning experience so far for me. [Kathea Smith] That’s wonderful to hear. So what’s next for you? Graduation is not that far away. [Will Casey] Not that far way. [Kathea Smith] What’s after graduation? [Will Casey] After graduation, I think I’d like to spend some time in commercial real estate finance, and then hopefully one day become a developer myself. [Kathea Smith] Well I am sure that you will go amazing places, Will. Thanks for coming and talking to us .
