Democrats on WEDC board express concerns ahead of Foxconn vote

MEMBERS OF THE STATE’S JOB CREATION AGENCY ARE PREPARING TO VOTE ON A THREE BILLION DOLLAR DEAL TO BRING A TECH GIANT FOXCONN TO THE STATE. AND WE KNOW TONIGHT… AT LEAST ONE MEMBER WILL VOTE AGAINST THE PLAN. POLITICAL REPORTER JESSICA ARP IS LIVE AT THE STATE CAPITOL WITH THE LATEST. JESSICA. THE LAWMAKER WHO SAYS HE’LL VOTE AGAINST THE PLAN… IS ALSO RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR AGAINST GOVERNOR WALKER… CREATING YET ANOTHER LAYER OF POLITICS AROUND THIS DEAL THAT INVOLVES POSSIBLY THOUSANDS OF JOBS… AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. THE WISCONSIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD WILL VOTE TOMORROW AFTERNOON ON A CONTRACT WITH TAIWANESE TECH COMPANY FOXCONN… THE LEGISLATURE HAS APPROVED A THREE BILLION DOLLAR INCENTIVE PLAN TO HELP THEM BUILD A FACTORY IN SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN. MEMBERS OF THE W-E-D-C BOARD HAVE NOW SEEN THE CONTRACT LANGUAGE… BUT THE PUBLIC WON’T UNTIL AFTER THE CONTRACT IS APPROVED. (((REP ROBIN VOS/R-ASSEMBLY SPEAKER)))I would rather have the opportunity to make sure that the board who is voting on it on behalf of the taxpayers knows exactly what’s in there and its my understanding that they are continuing to be updated on things that could potentially change or are being discussed (((REP DANA WACHS/D-EAU CLAIRE))) I read the contract, I’m under confidentiality obligations so I cant go into great detail :50 I am against this deal, its too much money being spent DEMOCRATIC REPRESENTATIVE AND ATTORNEY DANA WACHS ONLY RECENTLY WAS APPOINTED TO THE W-E-D-C BOARD… REPLACING FORMER MINORITY LEADER PETER BARCA… SPEAKER VOS TODAY CRITICIZED THAT APPOINTMENT… SAYING WACHS WAS POLITICIZING THE PROCESS. WACHS POINTS OUT HIS 31 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS AN ATTORNEY… AND SAYS HE’S WELL QUALIFIED TO MAKE A DECISION. ANOTHER DEMOCRAT ON THE BOARD… SENATOR TIM CARPENTER… SAYS HE HASN’T FINISHED READING THE CONTRACT… AND IS NOT YET SATISFIED THAT TAXPAYERS ARE PROTECTED. THE W-E-D-C BOARD WILL MEET TOMORROW AT 1-30 P-M… AND WILL LIKELY VOTE ON THIS CONTRACT IN CLOSED SESSION. THANKS, JESS.
