I’m Suzanne Lindbergh and I run BUILD. The idea of BUILD was to provide
a platform for the most compelling storytellers in the world to
come and tell their stories. I want to come into work every day
and I want to feel fulfilled. I want to feel respected.
I want to feel challenged. I want to feel like if I make a mistake
it’s not the end of the world. I want people to feel like they
know that I will respect them and treat them in a way that
I want to be treated as well. What’s interesting about our workspace
is that I sit two desks away from Suzanne who is a VP of the company. I’ve always been a big believer
in starting small and then growing when it makes sense to grow. Everybody should definitely
have areas of specialty but at the same time everybody
should sort of have each other’s back. Things come up that need to happen, like
for example we need to start a new show. Suzanne will come to somebody
and say, “Hey, we have this thing that came up, you know,
can you run with it?” I was an intern for about
two years and then she gave me a chance to be a producer. She’s empowered me and gave me a
platform to keep on stepping on up. It’s always been this sort of
family of people working together. Ideas don’t have to come from certain people in the group and not from
other people in the group. Suzanne is so special
because she’s all for collaboration and she lets us use our strengths.
She lets us navigate the interviews the way we want but then she always
jumps in to add and make it even better and I think that something
really unique is that she can be hands-off and hands-on
at the same time. If I’m paying attention to contributing
really well for the company and making sure that I contribute in
a way that the company will be proud of, I recognize that in them
and I reward that in them. The team is always feeling
very challenged and happy and rooted in success.
